Purchasing a new car for your familia is super important. It takes time to research and find the right match for your gang. As families we spend a whole lot of time in our car, from last minute road trips, to carpooling little league and quick trips to the grocery. Cars are basically our second homes. Today I am sharing 5 tips on purchasing a new family car with the help of Cars.com.
1) Safety First
Nothing is more important than the safety of your familia, your research for a new family car should make safety a priority. You’ll want to look for a family car with safety features such as: Child safety locks & windows, Anti-lock brakes, Airbags with deactivation control, Head restraints, Head injury protection, Electronic stability control.
2) Can it fit you whole gang?
Were a family of six so obviously we need space for all the kiddos. If you have an infant , your needs are very different from parents who have several children. For example you will need room for car seats. (On Cars.com you can find some info on how to properly install your car seats.) Older children like mines would need different transportation accommodations than younger children. Consider every member of your familia in your future car purchase.
3) Budget Cha-Ching Cha-Ching
It’s important to your family’s financial future that you have a budget before considering a car, so you can comfortably afford to pay. Take a look your current savings, your income and your future plans as you choose. Also remember that buying a car also requires maintenance through out the car’s life span.
4) Cool Design
Who says you have to give up style to have a safe and affordable family car? These days, there are plenty of sleek and stylish cars that are a perfect fit for different families. Since I am “cool mom” it doesn’t mean I want to sacrifice my image (wink, wink). You might also want to consider entertainment for the kids such as a TV, DVD player, or video game console. These features will add to the overall cost, but they might be worth it for those spontaneous road trips.
5) Where should I shop?
In my opinion you might want to consider shopping with a dealership first since typically, dealerships can guarantee their vehicles have been through a complete inspection. You can however purchase a car from a private party but always order a vehicle history report. Vehicle history reports check the VIN number (vehicle identification number) and can tell you more about the vehicle’s past.
